Winners of RSUDC21 announced!

Winners of the Riverside Sunderland University Design Challenge (#RSUDC21) have been announced following an incredibly competitive six-month event.

A huge congratulations to Team M who have been announced as the winners.

The Riverside Sunderland University Design Challenge involved over 300 students who designed, engineered, planned and costed a three-bed family home along with a masterplan for 100 homes in Sunderland.

Teams were asked to create homes that met RIBA2030 Climate Challenge targets that were sustainable, low-carbon and promoted a connected, multi-generational community.

The winners were selected following a live event where students presented their projects to a panel of expert judges representing the best of UK construction.

Mark Southgate, chief executive of MOBIE commented:

"The brief of the Riverside Sunderland University Design Challenge, to design a low carbon home and neighbourhood, was very demanding, as were the times the challenge took place in. To see how well these multidisciplinary teams of students, sometimes from different universities, came together virtually to produce complex design solutions and masterplans was amazing.  The quality of the work they produced was nothing short of outstanding.

“Taking on the climate and housing crises is incredibly important and our built environment is key to creating a more sustainable future. Based on the quality of the entries from these talented young people I have no doubt that we have the individuals with the ideas, creativity and skills to help us address these crises head on.  It has been inspirational to see the future thinking designs that the teams have created and I am delighted that MOBIE, Timber Development UK and Sunderland City Council have given them the opportunity to show off their undoubted talents to a wider audience."

Wood for Good were a sponsor of the award alongside Confederation of Timber Industries, Accoya, Rothoblaas, Timber Decking and Cladding Association, DesignPH, PEFC, Alliance for Sustainable Building Products and BSW.
