Wood for Good to host lifecycle assessment master class at Timber Expo 2014

Wood for Good has assembled a team of lifecycle assessment (LCA) experts to deliver a master class on how the timber industry can make the most of environmental data, at the 2014 Timber Expo.

The event, which takes place on 7th October in the expo’s Toolbox Talks Theatre from 10am, will explain why LCA data is valuable to architects, specifiers and contractors and provide practical advice on how the timber industry can use it to bolster product promotion.

Global lifecycle assessment consultants PE International will appear at the event, showcasing best practice from other materials sectors that have used LCA data to their advantage.

Dave Hopkins, executive director of Wood for Good, said: “Having access to accurate LCA data is a significant step forward for the UK timber industry - allowing us to back-up what we know about timber’s outstanding environmental benefits with compelling evidence.

“Following the launch of our Lifecycle Database the industry now has one of the largest resources of its kind at its disposal and this event will provide new insights and inspiration for how the industry can take full advantage of it.”

Wood for Good will also use the Timber Expo to unveil the second Timber Industry Manifesto - which calls for new support from government to ensure timber continues to have a growing role in the UK’s built environment. It is inviting delegates at the expo to join the team at the Timber Accord stand for the launch of the new manifesto at 1pm Tuesday 7th October.

The LCA event will start at 10am on 7th October and the full roster of speakers is:

• Rupert Oliver, from the American Hardwood Export Council on its current and planned use of LCA data
• John Fletcher of the Wood Window Alliance on the LCA of Wood Windows
• Gary Newman, Alliance for Sustainable Building Products on making meaningful comparisons of data
• Timber engineers Eurban on utilising LCA data for building level assessment

The Timber Expo takes place at the Birmingham NEC on 7th and 8th October. For more information visit http://www.timber-expo.co.uk/
