Conservatoriesconservatory image

A timber conservatory can be both better looking and more environmentally friendly than plastic or aluminium. High quality manufactured windows, doors and patio frames are commonly used in the assembly of conservatories, with planed treated joinery sections allowing windows to be fitted together to form continuous glazed sections. Ready-made components are also available for assembly into conservatories.

Both softwood and (sustainable) hardwoods are suitable. When using softwood, check the timber has been specially kiln dried and pressure treated with a suitable preservative (like Osmose Naturewood or Tanalith). Choosing the correct treatments and finishes will extend the life of any timber conservatory. Softwood that has been specially heat treated to resist adverse weather conditions (Thermowood®) is also suitable for outdoor use.
